Even tho this ones a tough one, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t dedicate my first fashion post to a woman who has kept me inspired for a very long time now. As most of you may know, Kyrzayda Rodriguez or @kyrzayda, the incredibly stylish, fashion forward social media influencer, has passed away. She was diagnosed with stomach cancer not even a year ago and lost her battle September 9th, 2018. When I tell you it felt as if I was there fighting the fight with her, it literally was just that. You couldn’t tell me or any other fashion lover that she wasn’t our sister okay!
When I first discovered her on IG, I was instantly drawn to her vibrant, sassy energy and total knockout body. Her vibe was infectious and the passion she exuded through her posts were beyond inspiring. I hit follow almost immediately and shamelessly channeled her whenever I wanted to create the perfect look for myself. Her story was the most inspiring. She literally decided one day to step out on faith, quit her job and devoted the rest of her life to being a fashion blogger. And boy did she go hard at it! Her everyday outfits were a dream. The way she mixed textures and prints. The way she could rock the same jacket, dress or shoe 50 million times in 50 million different ways. And was also thee queen of transitioning her summer pieces into Fall which I personally LIVE for.
Besides being obsessed with her personal style, the way she smiled in pictures was like the icing on the cake. I mean when she smiled, you could feel the happy beams just pulsating through the screen. You could tell that she was a genuinely happy, humble and grateful person all around. The most amazing part of it all was that even when we first began to see her health decline and witnessed her hair loss. Watched her weight severely drop after every post to the point where she was almost unrecognizable. She never lost her smile. She never let that vibrant energy go. And she never allowed her illness to keep her from slaying us all with her effortlessly stylish looks. She continued to show us that life is still worth living in the face of death. Kyrzayda stayed true to herself, to her love for fashion and shared her journey courageously with us all every day.
Now, we’ve all admired someone in our lives or on social media, that we’ve envied. Maybe we’ve wished we had their lives or maybe wished we’ve owned the material things that they possess. Comparing our lives to theirs and beating ourselves up because we feel we are lacking in some way. If we could learn anything form Kyrzayda besides learning how to dress for the Gawds, was that comparisons can kill you quicker than any illness could. For comparisons have the power to destroy you while you’re still able to live. In one of her last live videos, she shared these beautiful, profound words- “I have a brand new car parked that can not do anything for me. I have a nice Chanel that can not do anything for me. And I can take a plane any day of the week now and it will do nothing for me…So don’t let anyone make you feel bad for the things you don’t have. But with the things you do have, build yourself. And be happy with those things. If you have a roof over your head who cares what type of furniture you have in it. Remember that the most important thing is Love.” A message so simple yet so difficult for many of us to grasp at times.
Let’s vow that we take that same energy of her last words to us and apply it to our own lives. There’s nothing wrong with loving and admiring others but don’t ever forget to give yourself that same love and admiration towards yourself. Life is soooo sooo short and precious. So be fly, be fearless, live in style and just be YOU..like your LIFE depended on it!
Thanks for reading y’all.
